Women attacked by man in car park

A woman has been sexually assaulted and her friend physically assaulted by a man in Newry.

The women, who are in their 20s, left a bar in Canal Street early on Saturday and walked towards the courthouse. They were joined by a man they did not know.

He forced them into a small car park at New Street, where he sexually assaulted one of them, then assaulted the other.

The women managed to get away and flagged down a passing motorist who then alerted the police.

The attacker was described as tall and slim. He was wearing light blue denim trousers and a black jacket.

Officers believe a number of people were in the area of Sugar Island and may have seen the man before the attack happened.
