An elderly man has died after a fire at a bungalow in Pembrokeshire.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the victim was rescued from the blaze at Boncath and treated at the scene by ambulance crews.

But his condition deteriorated and he died at the scene, a spokesperson said. A local postman first alerted emergency services.

A joint investigation by fire and police is under way to find out how the fire started.

Three appliances from Crymych, Newcastle Emlyn and Cardigan were called to the blaze at 1002 GMT.

Crews used breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and a thermal image camera to control the fire.

Station manager Dai John said: "We cannot determine a cause for the fire at present, however early indications are that no smoke alarm was fitted in the property."
