Blaze destroys Newry pound shop

A fire has destroyed commercial premises in Newry, County Down.

The Around a Pound store at Hill Street has been extensively damaged in the blaze which was reported at about 1800 GMT on Thursday.

The roof and internal walls collapsed at the three storey locally-owned shop which sells household goods.

Hill Street and adjoining areas have been cordoned off. Fire crews using specialist equipment spent several hours tackling the blaze

BBC reporter Conor MacAuley said early indications were that the fire started accidentally.
