Single fares on Northern Ireland Railways and Ulster bus are to rise as part of the annual fares revision.

Passengers face a 6% rise on a one-way train journey and 2% on Ulsterbus.

Some fares for return journeys and multi-tickets have been reduced to encourage more use of public transport and Metro fares will remain the same.

Marketing executive at Trankslink, Ciaran Rogan, said most customers will not be affected by the increase.

"It is good news for passengers - we are able to give back the benefits of a growing and successful public transport network and reward loyalty," he said.

"This should encourage even more people to make the switch to bus and train and lock in a cycle of growth and success."
