Mr Hooper added that judges also liked the consortium's emphasis on community websites and the importance placed on newspapers, "so that the North of Wales is not forgotten".

He said: I have been worried about the precarious position of Welsh news coverage on channel 3 and the danger of ITV pulling the plug on cost grounds. The UK government say around 60 existing ITV staff will transfer to Wales Live which will use existing facilities in Cardiff as well as creating a new North Wales news hub at Mold.
"That would have been very damaging for Wales with viewers reliant totally on the BBC as a monopoly supplier, however good it is. North Wales News and Swansea Sound news staff will also supplement news coverage.
"Welsh viewers need a choice, especially now that Wales has its own and increasingly powerful legislative assembly which needs to be reported on and held to account." Disappointment was expressed by rival bidders Tinopolis and Taliesin news, which includes the existing ITV Wales news team.

Prof Hargreaves' report also proposes the creation of a new creative industries strategic hub to recommend a re-organisation of Wales's support for the film industry in an attempt to eliminate duplication and maximise economic impact.
It says government should require S4C, the BBC and Channel 4, to deliver an annual audit of their economic impact on Wales and an assessment of economic issues looking at least one year ahead.
