Version 0 of 1.

Police in India have arrested one person in connection with the recovery of a firecracker in the cargo hold of a commercial airplane last week.

Rajasekharan Nair, an employee of a private firm, has been charged with planting the cracker in a Kingfisher plane, police said.

Mr Nair, a former security officer, worked for the private firm as an aircraft cleaning supervisor.

Security is usually tight at Indian airports.

Many airport officials have described the incident as a "major security lapse".

The police suspect that Mr Nair allegedly planted the cracker to "spite", a senior employee of the firm.

The fire cracker wrapped in a newspaper was detected on a Kingfisher airline flight at Trivandrum airport in southern Kerala state.
