Striking workers at SeaFrance have ended their industrial action which had disrupted cross-Channel services from the Kent port of Dover for five days.

The strike, which began on Friday, left ferries stranded in Calais after members of the CFDT union walked out in a row over new working practices.

Tens of thousands of passengers were affected over the Easter bank holiday weekend as all services were cancelled.

They were advised to check in as normal and transferred to other operators.

SeaFrance resumed its sailings at 0815 BST on Wednesday.

The dispute is estimated to have cost the company more than £1m.
