Elderly woman sexually assaulted

An 86-year-old woman has been sexually assaulted at the roadside after stopping her car in Hampshire.

Police said the woman was attacked by a man, in his 30s or 40s, who got out of a white van which also stopped at the side of the road in Winchfield.

The victim, who was driving a blue Volkswagen Polo, was assaulted in an isolated rural area, officers said.

She was attacked on the evening of 14 March, but police have only just released details of the assault.

Det Con Dan Leese, of Hampshire Police, said: "This is a very rare but particularly disturbing attack on an elderly woman who had stopped at the roadside in an isolated rural area.

"Extra patrols have been organised in the area and I would like to reassure the public that we are taking this matter very seriously."
