Version 0 of 1.

A pub landlady and a pub manager are recovering in hospital after they were stabbed while on duty in Fishguard town centre in Pembrokeshire.

Police were called to the Ship and Anchor pub on Wednesday night after reports of a "disturbance" in the bar.

The two injured have not been named but it is thought the manager at the Old Coach House pub nearby went to help the landlady of the Ship and Anchor.

A 23-year-old local man has been arrested and is in police custody.

Dyfed-Powys Police were called to the Ship and Anchor at about 1820 GMT on Wednesday where they found the two injured people.

They were taken to Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest.

Police later said their injuries were not life-threatening.

Playing pool

A local man was arrested at the scene.

Police have said they want to trace two people - possibly holidaymakers - who were believed to have been playing pool in the Ship and Anchor at the time.

People in Fishguard said they were shocked by the stabbings.

Old Coach House landlord Paul Mason said: "Everybody looks after each other in this town usually. It's quite a tight knit community but we look after each other.

"It's quite surprising that this thing's happened in this small town.

"Knife culture is something that we don't even think about in Fishguard to be honest.

"I was shocked I couldn't believe what happened in such a small town.

"It's a friendly quiet place everybody just gets on with everybody."

Insp David Sweet said they would not identify the injured people because some relatives had not been contacted.

"We don't believe we're looking for anybody else although there are some witnesses that may have been in the pub at the time that we're very keen to trace," he said.

"We've been informed that there were two people playing pool in the pub at the time that we haven't traced - apparently they're in the area on holiday and I would like them to contact us.

"It was very quiet in the pub at the time and Fishguard isn't renowned for this sort of incident, it really is a one-off, so people don't need to be unduly concerned."
