Body parts washed up on the Galloway shoreline in Scotland were that of a man missing from the Isle of Man.

Peter Merritt, 58, disappeared from his home in Douglas on 8 December.

The alarm was raised after a woman out walking her dog found a human leg on the beach at Auchenmalg, between Port William and Glenluce, last week.

An Isle of Man Constabulary spokesman said: "There are no suspicious circumstances and his family and the Coroner have been informed."

Police and coastguard teams were called to search the area on 7 March and the rest of the body was found nearby.

The area is notorious for bodies being washed up because of the currents in the Irish Sea and North Channel.
