Motorists on the M4 west of Cardiff have been warned of delays of an hour after a lorry rolled down an embankment off the motorway. The M4 westbound near Cardiff will remain closed until Friday evening, after a fatal crash involving a lorry and a van.
The westbound M4 between Cardiff West and Pontyclun was closed after the incident at around 1000 BST, in which a van also overturned on the carriageway. Motorists are being warned to expect hour-long delays and that the stretch between Cardiff West and Pencoed will stay shut until 20.00 BST.
Two lanes remain closed between junctions 34 and 35. The lorry rolled down an embankment off the motorway, and a van was left on its side on the carriageway at 10.00 BST.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes, with speed limits reduced to 30mph. One person was killed and two people were treated for minor injuries.
Traffic was reported to be at a standstill, as drivers were diverted off the motorway at junction 33, by Cardiff West services. The Welsh Ambulance Service said one person was confirmed dead at the scene and the two injured people were taken to the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend.
