The Liberal Democrat London Assembly transport spokeswoman, Caroline Pidgeon said that the new line will be welcomed by Londoners but warned that it "must not be used as a political football."

She said: "Right in the middle of a general election campaign, the mayor is desperate to claim credit for something he didn't initiate." Labour London Assembly Member, Val Shawcross, said: "This is a vital rail link that will be welcomed across London.
She also claimed that two previous "official openings" postponed on technical grounds were evidence of "political convenience". "But it's a bit rich for Boris Johnson to try and take credit for it in the middle of the election campaign when it was in fact funded and started by a Labour mayor thanks to Labour government funding."
Plans for an opening ceremony on 15 April was postponed with Transport for London citing "operational delays". Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat member of the London Assembly, also criticised Mr Johnson.
