Woman killed in farmhouse blaze

A woman has died in a fire at a farmhouse on the outskirts of a Cumbrian town.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was found dead by fire crews in the hallway of the house in Soutergate, Ulverston, on Friday night.

A Cumbria Fire Service spokesman said the severe blaze had destroyed the upper floor and roof of the farmhouse.

An investigation is under way and it is believed a spark from an open fire could have started the blaze.

The death is not being treated as suspicious by Cumbria Police.
