Conductor to face assault trial

A top British conductor has been ordered to face trial for 14 charges of indecent assault.

Robert King, 46, of Redcliffe Gardens, west London, is charged with assaulting males, one under 16 years old, between January 1983 and December 1994.

The conductor was released on bail by Ealing Magistrates Court on Wednesday to appear for trial at Isleworth Crown Court on 23 October.

Mr King made his debut conducting the BBC Proms in 1991.

He is now regarded as one of Britain's leading conductors of his generation, touring around the world.

Mr King has also worked on film music for Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven, Shrek 2 and The Da Vinci Code.
