Plans for a new housing development and community centre to replace Swansea City's old Vetch Field stadium have been finalised.

As well as 120 new homes, houses which lost part of their gardens when the football ground's stands were built could find them restored.

The plans, which follow consultation with residents, will go before Swansea council's cabinet on Thursday.

The club moved to the new Liberty Stadium in August 2005.

The plan would involve a development of two, three and four-storey terraced homes and a street lay-out in which vehicles will only be allowed to drive slowly.

It also recommends the closure of the St Phillips Community Centre, with the building of a replacement.

An exhibition on the proposals was held last year, which included a garden in the centre of the old football pitch.

Residents will gain access to the new Vetch "village" through seven gateways.

Swansea council leader Chris Holley, said: "We've undertaken a lengthy period of consultation with residents in the Vetch area and consider the site to have real potential for modern, sustainable housing and a new community centre that will cater for the needs of local people."
