Fire crews had to winch a horse to safety when it became stuck in a river in Dorset.

When rescuers arrived in Trent Way, Ferndown, they discovered the animal, named Fingel, was stuck in 3ft (1m) deep water and suffering from cold.

Crews used a large animal harness to lift the horse out of the river to safety on Tuesday evening.

A vet was also at the scene and examined the animal which is recovering after the ordeal.
