A man has been arrested on suspicion of trying to kill a woman and abducting two girls in Berkshire.

A 49-year-old woman was attacked with a knife on Thursday morning at a house in Meadfield Road, Slough.

About 40 minutes later, a 15-year-old girl was assaulted by a man who tried to drag her into a garden as she walked to school along Trelawney Avenue.

A few minutes later an 11-year-old girl was grabbed on the same road. A 22-year-old man is in custody.

Both girls managed to run away.

The woman suffered a cut to her head and was taken to hospital.

Supt Richard Humphrey said: "I would like to reassure the community of Slough that linked incidents of this nature are extremely rare.

"I would also like to thank members of the public and the police officers in attendance for their prompt actions which led to the early arrest of the suspect, who is now in custody and helping us with our enquiries."
