Version 0 of 1.

Plans to build 52 one-bedroom flats next to Sheffield United's Bramall Lane ground are set to get the go-ahead despite opposition from some residents.

The new three and four-storey blocks would be built at the junction of John Street and Shoreham Street and back onto the football stadium.

Opponents told the council the flats would cause parking and noise problems and invade their privacy.

But city planning officers have recommended the scheme is approved.

Ward councillors have objected to the application, which was submitted by urban design consultants Turley Associates on behalf of Sheffield United FC.

They said it constituted over development in a busy residential area.

However, a report before the city council's planning committee on Monday said the development "would not give rise to any unacceptable consequences to the environment, community or other public interests of acknowledged importance".
