Parts of England and Wales have been warned to expect floods, with more heavy rain due over the next few days. Communities in south-west England and south Wales have been warned to brace themselves for flooding as heavy rain on Thursday persists into Friday.
The Environment Agency has issued two flood warnings for the North East, two in south-west England, one in the Midlands and four in Wales. The Environment Agency (EA) said river levels were high with the ground approaching saturation point.
There are also 75 flood alerts across England and Wales, with the Met Office warning of more heavy rain in Wales and south-west England during the day. Localised floods have already hit parts of Wales, with firefighters called to pump cellars in Machynlleth, Powys and Ogmore Vale in Bridgend.
BBC forecaster Jay Wynne said up to 60mm could fall in the next 24 hours. There are also href="http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/31618.aspx" >flood warnings for parts of north-east England and the Midlands.
He said south-west England, Wales and the north of Scotland would see the most rainfall, but all of the UK would experience some rain. An EA spokesman said rivers were reacting to overnight rainfall and remained relatively high.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has also issued two flood watches. "With further rain forecast tonight and tomorrow, and the ground approaching saturation point, further flood alerts and flood warnings may be issued across Wales and south-west England," he said.
One is in place for Edinburgh and Lothian rivers, with heavy rainfall expected across the Haddington and East Lothian area into Thursday morning. "These may remain in place over the weekend and into next week."
A second flood watch has been issued for Orkney rivers. In north Wales, a delivery van driver has been stranded in his car in floods near Machynlleth since midnight. A recovery team is due to tow him to safety.
'Saturation point' And a woman in her 90s in the same area was rescued from a house in Dyfi Bridge after being stuck upstairs because of flooding.
The Environment Agency's flood warnings are in force in north-east England on part of the River Derwent at Buttercrambe Mill and part of the River Ouse at Naburn Lock. A total of 78 flood alerts and 10 flood warnings remain in place for England and Wales.
In south-west England, warnings are in place on the River Tamar from Tamarstone to Polson Bridge, and the River Torridge from Dolton to Bideford. href="http://apps.sepa.org.uk/Floodwarnings/default.aspx" >The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has also issued one flood warning for Lyne Water and five flood watches - for the Borders, the Kyle of Sutherland and rivers in Edinburgh and Lothians, Falkirk and Orkney.

And in Wales, one flood warning affects the A487 at Dyfi Bridge, Pennal and parts of Machynlleth, a second is issued for the River Rheidol at Aberystwyth, a third for the River Ely at St Fagans, and a fourth for the River Teifi at Lampeter and Llanybyther.
