  • I changed my central heating from electric storage radiators to gas central heating on 1st Feb, on the 23rd Feb I received a bill from Scottish Hydro ( who had never even been at my door ) for £208.00, my daughter queried the amount and found they were trying to charge me from the 4th Dec 2010, after she pointed out we never had any gas supply till 1st Feb the bill was then reduced to £55.00. • It would seem that Ofgem periodically issue a 'statement of intent' regarding the abuses and shortcomings of the energy companies but subsequently take no meaningful action which allows them to continue with impunity. Will Ofgem show more resolve on this occasion? • I for once fail to understand how can there be different tariffs for energy? I mean the electricity / gas will be same, the connecting pipes / wires etc. will be same so how can there be different rates?Yes, they may provide extra services, but should they not be priced separately? These companies post huge profits every year , still are allowed to increase prices using every available execuse. • Towcester, couldn't agree more. Energy; i.e. heat and light, is not a luxury. Should not be private companies running this. Same as transport. First Utility sent me on-line my latest bill and have arbitrarily changed the format completely. It now shows my total usage of gas and electricity and payments made since last July and how much I now owe them. I used to get a bill each month showing me that month's consumption etc. So I no longer have the relevant information to check my bills with. They have not said why, just changed it!
