Version 0 of 1.

A Green Party assembly member has expressed concern that the new executive could sanction "a bungalow blitz" in the countryside.

Brian Wilson said most of his fellow assembly members are in favour of overturning the controversial ban on new homes in NI's rural areas.

Mr Wilson was speaking on BBC Radio Ulster's Inside Politics programme.

The ban was brought in by NIO minister Lord Rooker in March 2006. He said it was designed to save the countryside.

Mr Wilson, who supports the ban, said: "They've all (other parties) said that would go.

"There are amendments that can be made to it, but the principle of stopping building houses in every field in the countryside - I've no problem with that - and that's something we would push.

"Because over the last few years we have become sort of bungalow blitzed like Donegal and we've got to stop that."

Mr Wilson was the first Green Party member to be elected to the Northern Ireland assembly.
