CCTV images of England supporters carrying out a racist attack in Southampton, after a World Cup football match, have been released by police.

Two Asian men were attacked on 1 July after England's game against Portugal.

Police said they believe the attackers, all white men, were aged in their 20s. They made off towards the city centre from Leisure World.

The images show the group kicking one of the men until he is unconscious and throwing a cigarette in his face.

Det Con Stuart Pearson said: "This was a vicious, racially-motivated attack on two innocent men who had been enjoying the football like everyone else.

"It would appear they were probably targeted just because England lost the game on penalties and that meant they were out of the World Cup."

The two victims of the attack are aged 22 and 36 and had been watching the football match themselves prior to being attacked.

Hampshire police have urged anyone who recognises the attackers, who ran off along Harbour Parade, to contact them.
