A landslide has killed at least eight children and is feared to have buried several more after hitting an orphanage near Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur. A landslide has hit an orphanage near the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, killing at least 14 people, many of them children, officials say.
Nine children have been pulled out with injuries after the landslide, which took place at about 1430 (0630 GMT) on Saturday. Emergency workers saved 10 people from the Hidayah Madrasah al-Taqwa orphanage in the district of Hulu Langat.
A local lawmaker said the area had suffered heavy rain for two days. But they said one was still missing, buried under the mud.
About 100 people, including emergency officials, are involved in the rescue effort, he said. Rain has been hampering the work of rescue teams, who have been using bulldozers, spades and their bare hands to try to reach survivors.
