Men arrested in Newcastle and Hampshire sex crimes probe Cumbria man faces kidnap and indecent assault charge

Three men have been arrested in connection with rape, kidnapping and indecent assault offences allegedly carried out in the 1980s and 90s. A man has been charged with kidnapping and indecent assault by police investigating offences allegedly carried out in the 1980s and 90s.

Northumbria Police said the men remained in custody and were being questioned as investigations continued. A 64-year-old man, from Cumbria, has now been charged with four counts of kidnapping and indecent assault. He will appear in court on Thursday.
Specially-trained officers from both forces are working with the victims and their families. The two other men will face no further action.
Det Ch Insp Steve Binks of Northumbria Police, who is leading the joint investigation, said: "We have been working together with Hampshire Police on the investigation. The man will appear before Newcastle Magistrates' Court.
"The arrests relate to historic sexual offences which occurred in the mid-1980s in Hampshire and historic sexual offences against two young girls from the Newcastle area in 1995." Police said the offences were alleged to have happened in Hampshire in the 1980s and involving two young girls in the Newcastle area in the 1990s.
