A woman has been robbed at knifepoint by two men while sitting in her car.

The 49-year-old was attacked in Hospital Street, in the Whifflet area of Coatbridge, at 1800 BST on Friday.

Strathclyde Police said the the men opened the driver's side door, threatened her with a knife and stole a three-figure sum of cash.

They both ran off towards School Street. The woman was not injured but police said she was very shaken by the incident.

Officers are checking CCTV and carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the Whifflet area.

Strathclyde Police Det Sgt Ian Connelly said: "Hospital Street is largely a residential area, and School Street is one of the main thoroughfares in Whifflet, so I'm hopeful commuters making their way home from work may have seen something of relevance.

"Thankfully the lady was not injured, however, she is naturally extremely shaken up by what has happened.

"To be practically accosted within your own car and threatened with a weapon must have been a terrifying ordeal, and we will not be satisfied until both these men are behind bars."

Both suspects were described as white, between 5ft 10in (1.78m) and 6ft (1.83m) tall and wearing dark clothing. One had a black, red, green and white scarf concealing his face.
