About 300 people have taken part in a memorial march for a 20-year-old man murdered in South Lanarkshire in April.

Paul Douglass was found with serious injuries following an altercation in Mallard Close, East Kilbride, on 29 April and later died in hospital.

His friends organised the walk through the town to honour Paul's life and raise awareness of knife crime.

Paul's mother thanked those who turned up, many wearing anti-knife crime t-shirts, saying they gave her "hope".

Maureen Douglass, 52, said Paul, known as PJ, touched the lives of everyone he met.

She said: "Everyone has been talking and sharing their memories of PJ.

"We see the march as a reflection of his life. He was a character and he touched everyone here.

"I can't thank the people here enough for what they have done, they have given us hope to get through these last few weeks and they have been amazing.

"We are probably still in shock. We are just a normal family but these people have saved our lives."

She added that many members of their family attended the walk, as well as his friends, and that the event was "respectful, just like PJ".

Strathclyde Police are still investigating his death and have asked anyone with any information to contact them.
