Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Nicol Stephen has focused on child health in the last days of campaigning ahead of the Scottish Parliament election.

The party has pledged free fruit for primary pupils, as well as an hour of physical activity a day for children.

They also promised 200 more dentists and check ups in schools.

Mr Stephen said voters had told him they wanted the next four years to be about getting things done and making a real difference to peoples lives.

"Improving the health of children in Scotland is a major challenge for the next four years," he said in Edinburgh.

The deputy first minister added that the commitment on physical activity and 1,000 extra PE teachers and sports coaches would help tackle childhood obesity.

The party, he said, would also invest £7.5m to provide healthy, local food for school meals.

"I want to see all children learn about cooking and preparing food for healthy living," Mr Stephen added.
