Rescue planes have found the wreckage of a Brazilian passenger jet that disappeared over the Amazon jungle, Brazil's airport authority has said. Brazil's air force has located the wreckage of a passenger plane which disappeared over the Amazon rainforest, the country's airport authority says.
It reported that the crash site was in an inaccessible area of Mato Grosso state. The Boeing 737, which had 155 people on board, was flying from Manaus to the capital, Brasilia, when it vanished.
The Gol airlines flight, a Boeing 737, left the Amazonian city of Manaus but failed to arrive in Brasilia. It was found in a remote area of the rural state of Mato Grosso.
There were 155 people on board the Boeing 737, operated by the budget airline Gol. "At this moment there is no way of telling if there are any survivors," said Denise Abreu, a director of the Brazilian Aviation Agency.
Initial reports said the airliner appeared to have collided with a smaller private plane, but aviation officials now say this cannot be confirmed.
Flight 1907 was operated by budget airline Gol, which has expanded rapidly in recent years to become Brazil's number two carrier.
This is the first major crash involving Gol, which was founded in 2001.
In a statement, Gol said the plane involved was new, having only come into service this month.
