In a statement, the dead student's sister Aneta said she and her father Wladyslaw were relieved that the man responsible for Angelika's death was now likely to spend the rest of his days behind bars.
She said the family thanked the Scottish public for their support during a horrific time and now wanted to be allowed to grieve in private.
In a separate statement, a Strathclyde Police spokesman said he hoped the family felt justice had been done and they could start to rebuild their lives.
He paid tribute to officers involved in the case, especially forensics officers whose meticulous efforts provided the crucial evidence to secure the conviction.
