Version 0 of 1.

A number of London theatres have cancelled performances on Tuesday night in response to riots across the capital.

The Battersea Arts Centre, Greenwich Playhouse and the Arcola Theatre in Dalston are among those that have closed their doors.

The Albany in Deptford also tweeted it had been "advised to close by the police".

So far no West End theatres have announced any closures.

The King's Head Theatre in Islington cancelled its performance of The Turn of the Screw, while the Union Theatre near Southwark shelved Dames at Sea.

A spokesman from the Arcola said: "Dalston Kingsland area is pretty much shut down and the Arcola Theatre has decided to cancel this evening's performance of On the Record and African Gothic."

The Union Theatre said on its Twitter feed: "Having to cancel tonight's show, can't risk anyone's safety. Boarding up buildings around us. Feel gutted and sad and a bit scared too."

Other venues affected include the Churchill in Bromley, the King's Head in Islington, Theatre 503 in Battersea, Stratford East, The Landor Theatre in Clapham and Broadway Barking.

Ticket holders for performances are advised to check with venue box offices before travelling.
