Version 0 of 1.

A woman has been found guilty of destroying her unborn baby.

Maisha Ahmed Mohammed, 22, of Wray Gardens in Levenshulme was convicted at Manchester Crown Court on Friday.

At her 34-week check up in February last year she said she had bled and had not felt the baby move. An examination showed she was no longer pregnant.

When questioned she claimed that the baby boy had been stillborn in Liverpool and she put him in the bin. The baby's body has never been found.

Mohammed was arrested on suspicion of child destruction and was questioned by officers.

Police said she gave them various accounts of how and when she had come to lose the baby, as well as what had happened to its remains following the miscarriage.

Affair

Officers have so far not been able to trace the child's remains.

It is thought Mohammed may have had a termination after becoming pregnant through an affair she had while her husband was away working in Ethiopia.

Det Insp Brian King from Longsight CID said: "This was an extremely distressing case for everyone involved.

"Throughout the course of the investigation, Maisha has consistently lied about what happened to her baby and has shown little remorse for what she did.

"We may never really know what happened to this child or Maisha's real reasons for doing what she did."

Sentencing has been adjourned until Thursday 24 May.
