New Yorkers have voted to choose a successor to Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner, who resigned after sending lewd photos via Twitter. Republicans have won a key New York City election billed as a referendum on President Obama's economic policies.
The vote in New York's ninth district is being billed "too close to call". Retired media executive Bob Turner defeated Democratic state assemblyman David Weprin to succeed Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner.
Republican candidate Bob Turner, backed by former New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani has called the vote a "referendum" on President Barack Obama. Mr Weiner, who served in the House for seven terms, resigned in June after a sex texting scandal.
