The incident is thought to have taken place in blast furnace number four, which had been recently undergoing maintenance. The Corus spokesman said: "At approximately 2.50pm today, whilst recommissioning Blast Furnace No.4 after a period of planned maintenance, four Corus employees were injured carrying out a routine lancing operation.
"In line with procedure, the emergency services attended and have since left the site.
"An investigation into the incident has already started."
