Girl, eight, praised for helping mum after Gower fall

Swansea coastguards have praised an eight-year-old girl who scrambled across rocks and crossed a busy road to get help for her injured mother.

The 45-year-old woman and four children had been walking in Limeslade Bay, Gower, when she slipped and fractured her right ankle.

The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance after the incident at 14:00 GMT on Sunday.

Swansea watch manager David Jones said the girl acted very bravely.

"The little girl acted very bravely to help her mother and we'd like to praise her quick-thinking actions," said Mr Jones.

"In this circumstance she could also have called 999, although it may have been difficult to get a signal down in the rocky bay.

"Our coastguards and the paramedics worked as a team to get the woman from an awkward position to the ambulance," he added.
