Man bailed over Wigan elderly woman's death
(about 14 hours later) | |
A man arrested in connection with the death of a woman in her 80s in Wigan has been bailed while police carry out further inquiries.
Police were called to the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary on Monday after the woman attended hospital feeling unwell.
She died, and police arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of murder.
However, a Greater Manchester Police spokesman said a post-mortem test showed she may have died of natural causes.
The man has been bailed until 31 January, 2012.
Det Chief Insp Howard Millington, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "There has been a lot of speculation about this incident, and I do not want people to come to any conclusions about what may or may not be behind this woman's death.
"Initial indications are that she may have died of natural causes but we are carrying out further tests and inquiries.
"We would like to reassure the community that we have a number of detectives wanting to establish the cause of this woman's death, and there is nothing at this stage to suggest that anyone should be alarmed by what has happened." |
