A jury in the trial of a man accused of abducting and raping a six-year-old girl has been shown video footage of her first police interview.

On Tuesday Newcastle Crown Court saw the tape, recorded a day after she was found naked in a snow-covered alley.

Peter Voisey, 35, of Blyth, denies abducting the girl from her bath in North Tyneside in December, raping and sexually assaulting her.

The girl said her abductor warned her she would never see her mother again.

During the 40 minute film, the girl described playing in the bath when a man walked in, grabbed her, and drove away with her in his car, before subjecting her to two sex attacks, and then dumping her in the alley.

She said: "He carried me and put his hand over my mouth. He said 'be quiet or otherwise I will hurt you.'"

"I was trying to scream," she added. "He told me I would never see my mum again."

The jury was told an intruder came into the family's terraced house in Willington Quay on 27 December and snatched the girl from the bath when she was alone.

The girl said she was snatched as she played in the bathtub

Moments earlier, her mother's partner had removed the little girl's toddler brother from the bath and was dressing him in another room.

Soon after, the mother heard a screech in the back lane which sounded like a car. When she found the bath empty she frantically searched the flat and then dialled 999.

James Goss QC, prosecuting, told the court how an entry in Voisey's diary on that day read: "Phew, it's over, chill now."

In a police interview, the 35-year-old explained that it referred to his relief that Christmas was over.

Mr Goss said: "Was it, however, a reference to what he had done that day, something about which he had been thinking for some time?"

The prosecution also alleges that partial footprints found in dirt on the floor in the bathroom matched a pair of Diadora training shoes belonging to the defendant.

The trial continues.
