Police have launched a campaign on Facebook to try to trace the mother of a baby who was found dead in Lancashire.

Lancashire Police have also filmed a direct appeal to the unknown woman, which will appear on the force's page on the YouTube site.

Det Insp Martin Clague said the sites were "part of people's everyday lives".

"By using them, we can reach people, and maybe even the mother herself, that we haven't before," he said.

The body of the baby boy was found on Saturday 1 October in Spen Brook, a few hundred yards away from the Boys Brigade Club on Carr Lane in Kirkham.

Police believe the boy was a full-term baby.

Mr Clague said: "Our main priority is still to trace the mother of the baby boy and we would urge her to come forward so that we can offer them the support they may need."
