A search involving a helicopter and lifeboat was started after kite surfing gear was found off the Dorset coast.

The white, orange and brown board and red and black kite were found in the water, prompting a four-hour search in Poole Harbour on Friday.

The search was called off but no one was found.

The coastguard said it was continuing to carry out further checks and appealed for information about the kite surfer or equipment.

The board was described as a Brunotti model measuring 1.3m (4ft) by 40cm (16in) and the kite is a Cabrinha Convert 11.
