Police have recovered a car stolen from outside a house in Oxford with a toddler in the back.

The two-year-old girl was missing for half an hour after the black Range Rover she was sitting in was taken from a house in Headington.

Police believe that the thieves may have dumped the vehicle in Cowley after hearing radio reports that the toddler was missing.

The child has now been reunited with her family.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police patrols, roads policing officers and the force helicopter were all looking for the vehicle but a member of public heard the press appeal at 1500 BST.

"They directed officers to the vehicle which had been abandoned in Osler Road, Headington. Officers arrived within minutes and found the child safe inside."
