A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a 17-year-old man in Hamilton.

The teenager and a 29-year-old man were injured in a disturbance involving about 10 men in a pub car park just before midnight on Friday.

The pair were taken to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride where the 17-year-old died a short time later.

Police have appealed for any witnesses to the attack at the Woodhead Bar to come forward.

The older man is receiving treatment for a serious head injury and police are treating the death of the teenager as murder.

Det Insp Gordon McConnell said: "There was an 18th birthday party ongoing in the bar when a disturbance broke out in the car park involving around 10 males, including some who were attending the party.

"I would appeal to anyone at the party or anyone who was in the area at the time, who may have witnessed the disturbance to come forward.

"There are also houses overlooking the car park and I would ask any residents who may have seen or heard anything to contact the police."

Anyone with information was asked to contact police or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
