The British-Irish Council summit which was due to take place in Dublin on Monday has been postponed.

It has been postponed as a mark of respect following the death of Eithne Kenny, the mother of the Irish prime minister, on Saturday.

The funeral for Mrs Kenny is expected to take place on Monday.

The British and Irish governments are to work together with the other member administrations of the council to agree a new date for the summit.

The British-Irish Council is the only forum which includes UK, Irish and crown dependency governments.

It was set up as part of the Good Friday Agreement to allow members to discuss issues of common interest.
