A 42-year-old man who handed himself in after a couple were bludgeoned to death in their own house has been sectioned.

The bodies of Dennis White, 61, and Maria White, 49, were found in their Manchester home on 1 June.

Post-mortem tests revealed the couple had suffered "head trauma caused by a blunt heavy instrument", police said.

Detectives have been granted more time to question a 36-year-old woman and a boy aged 16 who were arrested soon after the bodies were discovered.

'Domestic-related'

Police were called to the house at Belvoir Avenue, Levenshulme, on Friday morning.

The woman and teenager were arrested before the man handed himself in to police on Friday afternoon.

A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman said: "A 42-year-old man, who was arrested after a couple were found murdered at their home in Levenshulme, has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

"Detectives continue to question a 36-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy about the incident after being granted warrants for further detention.

Greater Manchester Police said the deaths were being treated as "domestic-related".
