Version 0 of 1.

The family of a private eye murdered with an axe in a London pub car park has welcomed the identification of two new suspects by police.

The body of Daniel Morgan, 37, was found in the car park of the Golden Lion pub in Sydenham in March 1987.

Police believe he was killed because he was about to expose serious criminality and have identified two new suspects.

Mr Morgan's mother, who lives in Hay-on-Wye, Powys, has said the family will continue their fight for justice.

A series of police investigations were carried out in the years since Mr Morgan's killing, but no-one has ever been convicted over the murder.

'Drugs conspiracy'

Scotland Yard detectives involved in the latest investigation have arrested three people since the new inquiry began two years ago. They are all on police bail.

Detectives have now said they have identified two new suspects they want to trace over the murder, which they believe was carried out because the private detective was about to expose a drugs network, possibly involving corrupt police officers.

Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Cook said: "One of the motives that we are investigating is that Daniel was killed because he was about to expose a drugs conspiracy which was potentially linked into police corruption."

A £50,000 reward is being offered for information leading to a conviction.

The family of Mr Morgan, who grew up in the village of Llanfrechfa, Monmouthshire, have said they believe he was killed by a professional hit man.

His mother, Isobel Hulsmann, 80, has said the family will continue their fight to see the case solved.

She added: "This word 'justice' - it must be done and it must be seen to be done."
