A man was stabbed during a robbery at a shop in North Tyneside. A shop worker has been stabbed in the chest during an attempted robbery in North Tyneside.
Northumbria Police said they had received a report of the robbery at a shop in Northumberland Terrace, Wallsend, at 17:47 GMT on Saturday. A customer found him on the floor with a stab wound at Rosehill General Store in Northumberland Terrace, Wallsend, at about 17:45 GMT on Saturday.
The male member of staff was taken to hospital and police described his injuries as "potentially serious". The shop worker was given first aid by the customer before being taken to hospital, where his condition has been described as stable.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time or who witnessed what happened to contact them. Two men, aged 25 and 26, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery.
Northumbria Police North Tyneside Ch Supt Steve Neill said: "This was a violent robbery which is out of character for this area.
"I would like to reassure local residents and the business community in Wallsend that we are taking steps to quickly bring those responsible for this incident to justice."
He said there were increased patrols in the area.
