A shop worker has been stabbed in the chest during an attempted robbery in North Tyneside. | |
A customer found him on the floor with a stab wound at Rosehill General Store in Northumberland Terrace, Wallsend, at about 17:45 GMT on Saturday. | |
The shop worker was given first aid by the customer before being taken to hospital, where his condition has been described as stable. | |
Two men, aged 25 and 26, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery. | |
Northumbria Police North Tyneside Ch Supt Steve Neill said: "This was a violent robbery which is out of character for this area. | |
"I would like to reassure local residents and the business community in Wallsend that we are taking steps to quickly bring those responsible for this incident to justice." | |
He said there were increased patrols in the area. | |
Anyone with information about the stabbing has been asked to contact police. |
