The body of 21-year-old Stephen Pollock was found at a house in Weaver Terrace, Paisley, at about 23:15 on Wednesday, following a disturbance there. | |

Emergency services were called to the house in Weaver Terrace following reports that a man had been injured. Local residents said gun shots had been heard. | |
Gunshot wound | |
Det Supt Alan Buchanan, who is leading the investigation, said Mr Pollock had "sustained a gunshot wound" and although paramedics were quickly at the scene they had been unable to save him. | |
"We last know that Stephen was in the Paisley area at 15:30 in the afternoon of the Wednesday and, thereafter, we don't know where he was. | |
"We are appealing for any member of the public that may have information regarding his murder, and specifically his movements from 15:30 onwards until he arrived at Weaver Terrace at night." | |
Det Supt Buchanan said Mr Pollock was well known in the Hunterhill area of the town as "Pollock" and was usually seen walking his golden retriever dog. | |
He added: "Somebody out there will have information which can assist us. | |
"The people responsible will have either confided or boasted to someone that they were responsible." | |
Speaking at the same news conference, Mr Pollock's mother, Nancy, made an emotional appeal for help in catching his killer. | |
She said: "Stephen was a great son and much loved by all the family. I can't believe he has been so brutally murdered and won't be here for Christmas. | |
'Horrific' death | |
"We had to break the news to his wee sister, who is only six, this morning and she is absolutely heartbroken. | |
"She asked me if she won't be her brother's girl anymore." | |
Mrs Pollock said the family's lives would never be the same again. | |
"We will never get over, not only losing Stephen, but losing him in such a horrific and tragic way." she said. | |
"No family should have to put up with what we have suffered. | |
