Areas of Scotland have been battered by gale force winds, which gusted to almost 90mph in places. About 1,000 homes remain without power after gale force winds battered Scotland on Wednesday.
Power was cut off to several thousand homes, storm surges saw waves crashing over sea walls and high winds caused disruption on roads and bridges. Scottish Hydro said electricity was cut off to up to 12,000 properties at the height of the storm.
Electricity distributor Scottish Hydro said up to 12,000 homes were without power at the height of the storm. Winds with gusts of up to 90mph were recorded in some parts of Scotland with disruption caused on roads and bridges and waves crashing over sea walls.
It said about 3,000 properties, mainly in the Argyll and west region, remained without power at 23:00 on Wednesday. More than 100 engineers were due to begin reconnecting supply to the homes still without power at first light.
However, 100 engineers were working on faults to the network.
