Arrest over 'unexplained' death of man in Shrewsbury Shrewsbury murder inquiry: Three men arrested
(about 14 hours later)
An arrest has been made over the death of a man who went to a Shropshire hospital with serious injuries. Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 23-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Shropshire.
The injured man, aged in his 20s, arrived at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on Tuesday evening where he later died, West Mercia Police said. The man was pronounced dead at 18:55 GMT on Tuesday shortly after arriving at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
In a statement, the force said a man had been arrested in connection with the "unexplained" death. Police said the man was taken to hospital following a dispute involving between 10 and 20 young men at Monkmoor Recreation Ground, in Shrewsbury.
A post-mortem examination is due to be held in due course and the coroner has been informed. A Home Office pathologist is expected to carry out a post-mortem examination later. The dead man has not been named.
Police are appealing for anyone with relevant information to contact them. 'Vitally important'
Det Ch Insp Dave Andrews said the dispute happened at about 18:00 GMT on Tuesday.
"It appears there was a confrontation involving a number of people resulting in a man receiving stab wounds," he said.
He said one man was arrested at an address near Shrewsbury on Tuesday night. A second man was arrested in Shrewsbury at about 04:30 GMT and a third man was detained at 07:45 GMT in Telford.
The three suspects, all in their 20s, are being questioned at Shrewsbury and Telford police stations.
He added: "I am appealing for witnesses to contact the police as a matter of urgency. It is vitally important anyone present at the recreation ground comes forward without delay.
"We already have a number of witnesses but we want all those who were present during this disturbance to contact us now rather than the police coming to them in the coming days."
