Police have arrested a man, reported to have been armed with a shotgun, at a shop in Belfast city centre. A 22-year old man is still being questioned after an attempted armed robbery in Debenhams in Belfast city centre on Wednesday.
The incident happened at the Debenhams store in the Castle Court shopping centre in Royal Avenue at 14:20 GMT on Wednesday. Eyewitnesses said a man, who appeared to be carrying a rifle, threatened staff at a perfume counter in the store at Castle Court.
Police said they had received a report of a man acting suspiciously at business premises at Royal Avenue. Officers armed with taser guns arrested him but did not use their weapons.
They said a 22-year-old man had been arrested. It is understood tasers were drawn by police but not used. Police said they had received reports of a man behaving suspiciously at about 14:20 GMT.
