Det Con Robin Aspin, from Sussex Police, praised the bravery of the man who intervened. Three men are being questioned by police. The men, two aged 18 and one 27, were arrested early on Thursday.
He said: "He is to be applauded for his bravery and his action has given us a very good chance of finding the suspects. Sussex Police said they were also being questioned in connection with two street robberies in Brighton.
