A newly-qualified teacher found hanged at her Bristol home had not been involved in a previous altercation with another staff member, a council said.

The body of 26-year-old Vanessa Rann, who taught at The Grange School and Sports College in Warmley, was found at her home by her partner last weekend.

South Gloucestershire Council denied claims that Ms Rann had been involved in an incident.

Police said they were not treating the death as suspicious.

'Coping well'

A council spokesman said: "We have looked into the allegations involving an incident between Ms Rann and [another member of staff] and there is absolutely no truth to these rumours.

"[The other member of staff] has not been suspended and continues to work at the school with the full backing of the head, governors, fellow members of staff, parents and pupils."

Head teacher Steve Cook has confirmed that an internal investigation into the incident was under way.

"The death of a member of staff is a great tragedy but we are coping very well within the school."
